Victorian Communications Director

Opportunity Closes: Sunday, 18th of December 2022 at 11:59 pm AWST.

About UN Youth Victoria

UN Youth Victoria is a division of UN Youth Australia, a national youth-led organisation that aims to educate and empower young Australians on global issues. We know that young leaders have the vision and passion to create meaningful change within their communities and throughout the world, and strive to equip them with the skills and inspiration to do so.

UN Youth Australia is run entirely by a team of over 1,000 dedicated volunteers aged between 16 and 25. Our activities – which engage over 15,000 students each year – are run for young people, by young people. We are one of the only organisations brave enough to employ young people with skills in education, design, leadership, organisation, diplomacy and negotiate to execute their visions – and we couldn’t be happier with the result!

If all this excites you, too; if you’re passionate about providing pathways for young people to achieve great things, and have a passion and commitment to lead positive change within the community, then we want you on our team.

About the position

The Communications Director is the external voice of the organisation, responsible for promoting and maintaining our image to new and existing stakeholders. You live and breathe social media, and are proficient in its use, but understand a holistic communications strategy extends far beyond this. You are therefore constantly thinking of imaginative ways to expand UN Youth Victoria’s reach through integrated communications strategies. To this end, you are able to work efficiently and cooperatively with other areas of the organisation to coordinate targeted promotional activities. You are prepared to liaise regularly with event convenors to develop and revisit specific marketing strategies.

You are familiar with basic analytics tools and are able to use this to determine the effectiveness of campaigns. The thought of editing a website does not scare you, although you do not need to be a whiz at HTML. You are creative and articulate, skills that are necessary as you develop content for social media platforms and emails. You are an organised individual who can develop content and emails that need to be published urgently.

You have the ability to work with the National Communications Committee and Chief Communications officer to integrate national strategy into Victoria’s communications. This may include changes to brand guidelines, updates to email policy, a coordinated merchandise store and more.

Core Competencies:

Communication

You have exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to draw people in and inspire them across a range of platforms.

Customer Orientation

You’re all about people and know what makes them tick. You keep them at the centre of everything you do and know how to adapt your style to a variety of stakeholders.

Strategic Thinking

You have the ability to think outside the box, predict future trends and challenges and define long-term strategy across all communications channels to expand our reach.

Planning and Organisation

You can combine your strategies and ideas into a long-term communications plan, oversee its implementation and monitors its effectiveness, whilst understanding that reactive communications will sometimes take precedence over prepared strategy.
