Financial Controller

Applications are now open for the position of Financial Controller as part of the National Financial Committee. 

The Financial Controller (FC) The FC is responsible for assisting the CFO in ensuring that the National Organisation meets its financial reporting obligations. 

NOTE: The appointment of this position will prioritise people with previous or ongoing experiences in the finance or accounting field.

All members must be under the age of 25 at the time of their appointment and eligible for Associate Membership of either a Division of UN Youth Australia or the national organisation. They must hold, or be eligible to hold, a Working With Children Check (WWCC) or state equivalent.

Responsibilities include:

  • Assisting with financial reporting obligations. 
  • Providing assistance to the other members of the NFC (and where needed divisions) on technical accounting matters.

Tasks Include:

  • Preparation of monthly management report for the Board
  • Preparation of monthly BAS and facilitating the lodgment to ATO
  • Management of AP and AR functions (both technical and people sides)
  • Assisting in maintaining and reviewing internal financial controls
  • Preparation of complex manual journals for CFO review.

Additionally, the Financial Controller is expected to demonstrate the following core competencies: 

Applicants must:  

  • Have commenced or finished a finance or accounting major/specialisation.
  • Be eligible to be a facilitator, between the age of 18 – 25.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Previous experience in preparing financial information;
  • Prior experience working with Xero, and
  • Previous experience in people management.

  • 10-12 hours per week plus team meetings on a fortnightly basis
  • 12-month term (with a three month probation period)
